2013 Provost’s Award for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity

I write to bring to your attention the competition for the 2013 Provost’s Award for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity.  This award reflects the commitment of the Office of the Provost to cutting-edge research, scholarship, arts, and creative activity among our undergraduate students and their faculty mentors.  This year, the Provost’s awards will once again recognize outstanding achievement in the following five categories:

  • Natural and Mathematical Sciences
  • Social and Applied Sciences
  • Professional Inquiry
  • Performing and Creative Arts
  • Humanities

Faculty members are encouraged to nominate their students’ best scholarly or creative work to Associate Dean John Lucaites by Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at asug@indiana.edu.  Each submission should include the following items:

1)      An email that contains the Student’s Name, Faculty Mentor’s Name, and Submission Category (select one from the list above)

2)      The student’s project*

3)      Student Statement (see attached flyer for specific instructions)

4)      Mentor Statement (see attached flyer for specific instructions)

*Projects that cannot be submitted electronically should be delivered to Ms. Kristin McCormick in the Undergraduate Academic Affairs Office in Kirkwood Hall 012.  The College’s Scholarship Selection Committee will review the submissions and forward the nominations of (up to) two students in each category to the campus-wide competition.  Additional details regarding the competition are included in the attached flyer which I would encourage you to forward to your faculty and students.  I know that there are many outstanding research and creative undergraduate student projects mentored by our faculty each semester and it would be especially gratifying to see some of these projects recognized at the campus level through the Provost’s Awards.  I appreciate your efforts and thank you in advance for your cooperation and assistance in promoting this opportunity to our students.

Best, John Louis Lucaites
