What We Offer

The Medical Services Administration Department provides management and support to Planned Parenthood of Illinois’ 17 health center locations throughout the state.  Title X is a Federal grant program that is dedicated to providing individuals with comprehensive family planning and related preventive health services, with priority given to persons from low-income families.  PPIL’s 9 Title X clinics offer services with sliding-scale prices to patients who cannot afford to pay the full fees.

The Clinical Operations Intern will assist with the preparation of a Title X Federal Audit in mid-June and regular state-wide Title X audits in the late summer and fall.  The intern would be responsible for gathering the information requested on the provided auditing tools and organizing the documents in a clear manner.

Internship highlights:

What We Offer

Planned Parenthood of Illinois’ Public Policy Department is an active member of the Chicago Female Condom Campaign (CFCC). The Chicago Female Condom Campaign is a diverse coalition of organizations working to increase awareness, access, and use of female condoms.

The Chicago Female Condom Campaign Intern will work closely with Public Policy and Education staff on coalition projects while connecting the experience back to PPIL’s primary work. In particular, the intern will assess the availability of Female Condoms in Chicago pharmacies and plan a Female Condom day of action for PPIL health centers.

Internship highlights:

  • Develop a working knowledge of the uses and benefits of Female Condoms as well as how to effectively educate others about the product
  • Conduct site visits to local condom distribution sites to determine visibility of condoms as well as knowledge and attitudes regarding Female Condoms
  • Create a plan of action for Global Female Condom Day to educate and advocate for Female Condom use in PPIL Health Center waiting rooms in conjunction with Community Outreach Coordinator

The Planned Parenthood of Illinois Finance department works to ensure that all services provided are properly documented and billed to be in compliance with State and Federal regulations, and to ensure we bring in revenue in order to carry out our mission.  The Medicaid Billing Intern’s project will be to compare the productivity and effectiveness of rebilling claims by reviewing Illinois Medicaid remittance vouchers manually versus electronically through the NextGen Practice Management system.

The intern will do productivity measurements to determine the effectiveness of each method overall, whether some rejections are better handled by one method or the other, and find areas that would benefit from improvement. The intern will study their productivity over the course of their internship, in order to help develop productivity benchmarks for employees. The intern will also get the billing department up-to-date with any outstanding claims. Additionally, the intern will assist with refunds to our Medicaid payer, and ensure that all credits are applied to allow for proper refunding to patients.

Internship highlights:

Summer Outreach Team members will play an important role in building public support for pro-choice, pro-family planning policies in our state.

Advocacy & Outreach Team members will work as a group to educate and recruit thousands of Illinois residents to show their support for reproductive justice issues. Interns will spend the summer going door-to-door, making phone calls, and crowd canvassing to identify supporters and empower them to stand up for reproductive justice. Team members will collect petition signatures and circulate educational materials to the public. Team members will not solicit donations.

Internship highlights:

  • Learn critical Community Organizing skills
  • Learn how to plan for, organize, and conduct a door-to-door canvass
  • Recruit supporters at summer events – interns will work in teams and pick their own beat, like concerts, festivals etc.

The Campus Organizer Intern will work to establish an Advocates for Choice group on their campus.  The intern will be responsible for establishing an official group on their campus, recruiting leadership and group members, building coalitions with other student organizations, and planning and executing on-campus events.

Planned Parenthood of Illinois will provide an internship supervisor and staff advisor who will work with you to gather materials, develop an organizing plan and provide education information and speakers. We will provide a number of training sessions throughout the summer to prepare you for organizing work in the fall and will connect you with other campus organizers throughout the state.
