Jacinda Townsend’s Debut Novel Saint Monkey This Friday

Come help celebrate the release of Jacinda Townsend’s debut novel Saint Monkey this Friday from 5-7 p.m. in the Carmichael Room (the lower floor of Morrison Hall).  We will have food and drink and jazz courtesy of pianist Reginald Bowens, and Jacinda will be selling signed copies of her book. Saint Monkey follows two girls in 1950’s Kentucky as they are raised in hardship, separated by fortune, and reunited through tragedy.  Donna Seaman, in a starred review on Booklist, calls it “a breathtakingly insightful, suspenseful, and gorgeously realized novel of cruelty and sorrow, anger and forgiveness, improvisation and survival, and the transcendent beauty of nature and art.”  Reba Leiding, in a starred review on Library Journal, says “Townsend’s descriptive prose, dense with imagery, portrays life in the Jim Crow South and Harlem’s heyday with startling immediacy. This author is one to watch.”
